Ayers Rock, Australia’s famous natural landmark, world’s largest monolith and is an Aboriginal sacred site.It rises an imposing 348 metres, 380.6 yards above a wide, sandy floodplain covered in spinifex and desert oak. The enormous size of the rock is astounding when you realise that it is estimated about two thirds exist below the ground.As the Sun changes its position during the day, Uluru changes colour from shades of fiery red, delicate mauve, blue, pink and brown, and rainfall creates a silver veil over the entire rock.
Alice Springs is the heart, the soul, the centre of Australia. This iconic outback town, rich in history and culture, has much to offer visitors to the region.
Kings Canyon - Millions of years of erosion has formed the sandstone gorge, now known as Kings Canyon, with walls more than 100 metres, 109.4 yards, high. The walls contain the fossilized tracks of ancient marine creatures.
Arrive Alice Springs by flight and start your coach tour through the West MacDonnell and James Ranges. Visit a camel farm for an optional camel ride (own expense) and later stop to view majestic Atila (Mt. Conner), before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon visit Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and explore Walpa Gorge. Enjoy complimentary wine and canapés while watching the sunset at Uluru.
Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre and Uluru alight. After sunrise join your Driver Guide for a drive around the base of Uluru then travel to Mutitjulu Waterhole. Here view Aboriginal rock art and learn about the area as your Driver Guide indicates native flora and fauna and explains the history of Uluru. Visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to see locally-made arts and crafts. Travel to Kings Canyon.
Join a guided climb to the rim of Kings Canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park (for those with a good level of fitness, sturdy shoes required). An easier walk along the boulder-strewn canyon floor is also available. Enjoy lunch at Kings Canyon Resort (own expense) before travelling to Alice Springs or returning to Ayers Rock Resort.
